Open Mustard Seed
I must Make myself believe in Magic again It feels Like I’ve lost my Faith but in Myself When did that Happen? How? I was so High on life once Full of enough Hot air to Float myself around the Globe But then Silver clouds turned to Tall grey cement And my balloon Burst and I Smashed into cliff walls and Slid Back down Here Where I am Now So low So Dim A tea-light flame in a Long and blacker cavern On the other side of a Labyrinth I never knew I Could be so hard to Find
Hey, thanks for reading Open Mustard Seed. Sometimes it really freaks me out how much believing in yourself seems to matter when it comes to great big dreams.
One example that always comes to mind is how pre-famous Jim Carrey wrote himself a $10-million check 10 years in the future for “acting services rendered” … and then 10 years later, landed his iconic role in Dumb & Dumber for $10 million. And I don’t know about you, but I haven’t heard of too many people who truly doubted their own success and got it anyway.
It seems the people who achieve their dreams are the ones who believe it’s possible. Even in moments of uncertainty or perceived failure, those who make it don’t let anything keep them from their path. They keep putting one foot in front of the other whether or not their destination is obscured by cloud cover.
I don’t think it’s all “fake it till you make it” either. I wonder if it’s more like the person you are going to become needs your faith in them — now, before any evidence of the future you want is visible. I guess that’s what faith is.
Anyway, thank you so much for stopping by and checking out my poetry. If this resonated with you, I’d love to hear from you in the comments! Sub or share if you want. I’m so glad you’re here. 🖤

"a tea-light flame in a long and blacker cavern on the other side of a labyrinth"—is the most honest description of lost selfhood. Not gone. Just impossibly far.
Honestly makes me think of Pluto in his underworld.
I like the evolution of self.
"The person you are going to become needs your faith in them" That's time travel.
Enjoyed this as well. “A tea-light flame / in a Long and blacker cavern” is tragic and poignant.
